“It’s all sex work”
THE SEX WORKER (TSW) is a multimedia magazine telling stories of trans & queer sex workers from New York City and around the world. We aim to break silence, challenge stigma, and assert the hooker’s gaze.
The Sex Worker is on a mission to question and listen. We want to ask queer and trans SWs from all walks of life: “What’s your fantasy? How do you desire?” We want to flaunt ourselves as openly & privately as we please. We also try to complicate the idea there is a one “successful” way of being OUT, whether as queer, trans, SW, or anything else.
We hold onto these two simultaneous realities: On the one hand, everyone under consumer capitalism is involved in the buying and selling of sexuality and erotic fantasy; on the other, certain communities (particularly Black, POC, trans, working-class SWs) experience some of the worst violence, stigmatization and isolation for their involvement or perceived involvement in sex capitalism.
We are worthy. We are infinite. We are beautiful. We know a thing or two about failure. About rejection, about dysphoria, about internalized -ISMs and the forever tease of comfort, safety, survival. We hate the police like you. We hate fascists in all forms. Sometimes we hate them most when we find them naked in our own beds.
The Sex Worker is made by sex workers and clients for sex workers and clients.
As our one of favorite nonbinary femmes told us early on, hence our motto, when it comes to relating, fucking, seduction, any kind of love or connection in this world: “It’s all sex work.”
